Designing the shape and appearance of a building can no longer be done in isolation. Building techniques, architectural fabrics are now closely linked. To be considered sustainable development requires a delicate balance between form, function and interaction between a building and its surroundings.

Implementing sustainable architecture in new or old buildings involves environmental, economic and social dimensions.
