U8. Architecture as Art

Being one of the seven traditional arts, architecture is clearly a form of art as it includes design, shapes, drawing…

SCULPTURE AND ARCHITECTURE:

Architectural sculpture has been used by builders throughout history and on virtually every continent on earth. As we can see sculpture and architecture have been intertwined since thousands of years, as the egyptians, greeks, romans and more used it in their buildings.

Also architecture has been used AS sculpture like for example the guggenheim museum.

PAINTING AND ARCHITECTURE:

There were many paintings of architecture in our history and some of the most impressive ones have been renaissance paintings.

Architecture can be viewed as a painting as well when we add colours and unique artistic shapes.

CINEMA AND ARCHITECTURE:

Cinema and architecture have been inseparable since the beginning of cinema. Both mediums are cultural expressions that deal with space, time and people, using spatial narratives to address human predicaments. Like directors, architects are responsible for turning fiction into reality. The built environment and the atmosphere it creates play an important role in his visual storytelling, from modernist homes to futuristic landscapes.

Some of the notable architecture films are: The belly of an architect (1987), The fountainhead(1949), Mon oncle (1958), The grand budapest hotel (2014)…

MUSIC AND ARCHITECTURE:

A music video is a way for an artist or band to promote their music, so the idea and setting of the video is important. You can explain song lyrics in greater depth, perform expressive acts, or simply visualize music. Some of these videos use architecture as the main focus, others just as background. Here are some music videos that integrate architecture in various interesting ways that will catch the attention of all architects.
